Interview by Steve Marais
Featuring Militsa Clifford (Kroshkina)
Published on 23 March 2025
Militsa Clifford (remember that name) paints, does freaky AI shit, makes videos eating salmon with naked guys, waters the floor, and somehow always looks glamorous. She talks to us about nudity, funerals, self-acceptance and moss. Born in Russia, now in Georgia, she’s made her naked body an art form, a weapon, and sometimes, a joke. Her influences are kind of Anna-Nicole meets Botticelli but with her own chaotic childhood experiences as a backdrop. Her military father once said that she and her sensitive brother should’ve swapped bodies. Instead, she kept hers and started painting it and filming it and prompting it and now people keep calling it porn. She really wishes they wouldn’t.

CHEAT SHEET
☞ Dreams of Thai heaven
☞ Always sleeps naked
☞ Deletes patriarchy
☞ Takes photos with confused nudists
☞ Runs like squirrel
☞ Loves explicit “Only Fire” songs about genitalia
☞ Absolutely hates forest wankers
☞ Wishes everyone would just understand that funeral rituals and death fascination aren’t weird but beautiful actually
Perhaps let’s start with a brief introduction. How would you introduce yourself?
I am Militsa. I do lots of stuff like fine art, AI art, performance, modelling, sometimes direct my own shootings, I actually like lots of things… I’m of course in love with art and I love nature, I love dogs, I love to be relaxed and I love yoga 🧘♀️
My dream is to show my art for this world and become a better version of myself.
Pull 3 of these: 🛼 or 🎰 or 🌈 or 📀 or 😈 or 💦 or 🍄 or 🧛 or 🥵 or 🍩 and six numbers between 1 and 100
🌈📀🍄 and 13, 8, 88, 1, 74, 21
🌈📀🍄 – based on your choices you are “aesthetic but completely unhinged”.
Your visual sensibilities are impeccable, but your inner chaos knows no bounds. People are drawn to your creative energy while worried you might vanish into a daydream forever. Trust your vision, but maybe set an alarm. Any truth there?
Yeah! It’s really me
Well, this might be the weirdest interview you have ever done. First question: Are you actually a sexual person or is it all a facade?
Sometimes I’m sexual sometimes I’m absolutely asexual. It depends on my mood. But I really like sexual things like fetishes and erotic art
I think sometimes I just put all my sexual energy in my art and then I’m absolutely asexual

I fucking hate Al-art. But I am obsessed with yours! Love love love. Why Al? And are you an AI-expert now?
Sort-of expert I think. Because you know, it’s a nice instrument. You can also use it to finish your photoshoot pics or generate new Al photo sessions without organising a huge team with makeup, hair stylist, stylist, set designer and photographer.
And not blow your whole salary, like for some ideas I need really lots of money. But anyway I think I can grow in this thing
Totally I get it. I just think it’s so clever how you use yourself as subject and medium
Tell me about your husband. He features heavily in your work and he’s naked half the time. Who is he?
He is love of my life my soulmate my best friend and he is fan of my art. When we first met he bought 3 artworks for his collection. He is electrical engineer, ex guitar player and Punk
He’s badass!
Yeah he is!
Tell him I am a huge fan. What’s something about your work no one ever asks you about—but you wish they would?
Oh it’s a really difficult question. Many people think my art is pornography and it’s really annoying sometimes.
Do you feel like you have a distinct “voice,” or are you still finding it?
I think I have totally found my voice but it’s changed little bit over time. My interests and my inspiration changed so my voice changed a bit as well. But it’s always about love and about human body
What’s the most aggressive colour and why?
I think it’s absolutely – red. But I prefer call it passion red, because as an artist I love all colours
Do you believe in revenge, or do you just believe in getting hotter?
Ahahha of course my answer is getting hotter. And anyway I believe karma will fuck all the people who upset me in my life HARD!
I love these questions! This the best interview in my life really
Glad you’re having a good time ☺️
On your website there’s a photo of you at a nudist beach with a big naked man looking confused in the background. Was that planned or was it a spontaneous moment?
It was spontaneous moment
That whole shoot was spontaneous because we didn’t know how people at the beach would react. In Russia nudist culture is so dumb
Why do you say that? Explain Russian nudist culture?
In Russia nudist culture it’s not so popular, you know? It’s very complicated to show your body naked. In Russia most people think nudist stuff it’s for perverts, but they are so wrong! Unfortunately there are lots of perverts around. It’s really annoying, especially as a woman. They sometimes really aggressively wank on you in the forest or they stare like crazy. But nudism is not about sex, it’s about freedom and health! So I hope more people can understand it in future.
I always sleep naked too. It’s not such a shame at all to be naked. It’s so stupid we all born naked. What the problem they got??
Agreed! If you died and your ghost haunted one room/place forever, where would it be?
Oh it’s so funny! I’ve never been to this place in my life, but it’s my dream place. It’s a Cemetery—Cimetière du Père-Lachaise—in Paris, I would like to stay in this beautiful peaceful place forever
Okay let’s manifest that for you
And I also love Thailand, I think it’s heaven
How many versions of yourself exist right now?
I think I need two! One for when I’m running around like a crazy squirrel and doing 1000 things in one day, and the other one for when I’m serious and calm, a bit lazy, overthinking all the things I have or have not done, criticising myself really hard like the most horrible critic ever
Well… I think in Al there must be 20 or 50 haha
Hahah yeah if it’s not 100!!! Sometimes I completely forget about work I created and then after some time I find them. I can’t even create a catalogue with available paintings
On a scale of one to Full Brazilian, how hairy is your gym playlist?
Ahaha actually I’m so embarrassed because I’m always too lazy to make a proper playlist. I always just listen to my husband’s playlists because there’s a lot of really trash pieces in my music collection
It’s lots of Russian pop music of course. Like a gay icon Valery Leontiev
Elvis Presley of course in my heart
And I like the group “Only Fire”. Such interesting lyrics! It’s about pussies and dicks. “Anal sex” is one of my fav songs from “Only Fire” 😜🤭
Would you rather be prepared or spontaneous?
Spontaneous sometimes. It was actually my style before, but now I prefer to be more prepared I guess
If you could instantly delete one thing from human culture, what would it be?
Patriarchy system please!
I have so many things on my delete list
Me too! Religion is another one…
What’s your favourite thing to put your hands on?
I really love to touch moss
I thought you’d say your husband
Hahaha. I love to touch him as well 🙂
Lucky guy! Would you rather live forever at 25 or forever at 60?
Oh it’s so difficult! I would like to say 60, because I will be much more clever. But I don’t want to live forever
Yeah when I was 25 I actually didn’t even know who I really was. I think I absolutely wanna die in the end. I love funerals
Oh? Tell me
I love these stupid human death rituals, especially in Russia and Georgia. It’s great!
I need to come see it then
Yeah u just need to see it. Like, at a funeral dinner everyone is supposed to eat with a spoon only
Whaaaaat? Ok…
Before it was normal to take pictures of dead people in coffins with relatives around. We got pictures like this with my grandpa. Now they think it is disrespectful.
That’s so weird but I kinda love it!
I don’t think it’s disrespectful. People just do not understand it. People are so afraid of death, you know?
Totally. Death is natural, it’s part of life. Final question (for now). What are you working on at the moment, and where can we find you?
I’m working on my book. It’s about my greatest collaborations with my soulmate and friend Anastasia Vladimirskaya. We’ve done lots of art together in Moscow. The pics from the nudist beach are from her. We’ve never published anything together so we wanna show it

The artist puts her body and the bodies of other people into focus as the main subject of her works to be accepted for who she is and feeling unsettled in her gender, Militsa finally finds a way to talk through art.
Inspired by the Renaissance and artists like Henri Tolouse-Lautrec and Aubrey Beardsley, alongside her own personal journey, Militsa’s work began capturing the innate beauty of the human body, while confronting taboos surrounding nudity and femininity. Her works, ranging from satirical self-portraits to vivid paintings with strong colours, serve as a powerful defender of women everywhere.
As both observer and observed, Militsa creates a very raw yet grotesque commentary on the nature of basic human notions like contact, intimacy, sexuality, freedom, self-expression and the power of independence. Finally, she feels whole and safe.
Militsa has been inspired by a wide spectrum of people over the years, from film directors, in particular Tinto Brass, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and Pedro Almodóvar, to artists, such as Egon Schiele, Marina Abramović and Zinaida Serebriakova, and a variety of other notable figures, including Pamela Anderson, Marilyn Monroe, George Carlin, Daniil Kharms and Sergei Dudnik (‘Seronkheliya’).
Militsa currently lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia, with her beloved husband Lee Clifford.
